Choir Members Attend RSCMA Course

Four singers from Good Shepherd, along with three from St. Timothy's, Signal Mountain, traveled to Wilkes-Barre, PA and had an incredible experience singing with 165 kids and adults from around the eastern half of the US for six days. The event was called the "King's College Course" and is sponsored by the Royal School of Church Music in America.
This organization is a partner to the Royal School of Church Music founded by Sir Sydney H. Nicholson to promote quality church music. Our seven days were led by Dr. Tom Whittemore of Trinity Episcopal Church, Princeton, NJ and Mr. Mark Laubach of St. Stephen's Pro-Cathedral who served as organist.
Two or three rehearsals a day, some with the large group and some by house (think Harry Potter- we were divided into houses by age group) were held across the college campus with the last rehearsal each day occurring at St. Stephen's Pro-Cathedral. There was a different afternoon activity each day and Compline was sung each evening at 9 pm by house. On Sunday, the Cathedral was full for morning Eucharist and again for Evensong, both led by the Course combined choirs. At Evensong the houses each sang individual anthems and the service was led by the dioscean Bishop. The talented staff and really good food topped off the whole experience. Everyone piled into the van with shouts of "see you next year!" It was impressive to see how many high school students attended and to hear how many of them were coming back for their 5th, 6th, or even 7th year!
