The Community Kitchen started in 1982 as a meal-a-day center located in a church. Recognizing that people who are homeless need more than food and temporary shelter, the Community Kitchen has grown in the past twenty-two years into a comprehensive homeless center located in its own building. It now offers support to homeless and hungry men, women and children by providing three meals a day; free clothing from Consider the Lilies Thrift Shop; day shelter for families; homeless health care on the premises; St. Matthew’s Night Shelter for Men; St. Catherine’s Night Shelter for Women and children; job placement and training. All of these services are offered at no cost. In the past four years, more than 100,000 meals have been served by staff members and volunteers at the Community Kitchen.
