Volunteer Opportunities

Acolytes and Adult Leaders


Acolyting is open to all young people, grades 6 through 12. Acolytes work in groups to assist the clergy in worship. Adult leaders are needed to help coordinate and schedule teams and assist acolytes in the sacristy before worship. Lay Leader: Denise Taylor

 

Altar Guild

 


 

This group prepares the Table for Holy Eucharist for each service. Groups meet once a month on Saturday mornings and are responsible for the elements at one service each month. Lay Leaders: Callie Bishop/Hazel Bell

 

Audio Visual Committee


This group is trained to work the video camera from the balcony for transmitting service to overflow worshippers in Talbird Hall. Contact: Stacy Ramsey

 

Chalice Bearers

 


 

This group assists the clergy during the service by offering the wine element during the Holy Eucharist. Lay Leader: Maddin Corey 

 

Chapel Flower Guild


Teams of two meet one Monday each month to arrange flowers for the Chapel services, as well as for special occasions. Lay Leader: Carolyn Miller 

 

Children’s Church


Volunteers are needed to lead a “child-size” church service during the 10am worship service. Each child learns the basic structure of our worship service and joins their parents for Holy Eucharist. Children’s Church is offered to pre-school children who are three and older.

 

Flower Deliverers


These volunteers hand deliver the altar flowers to parishioners who are sick, homebound, or who have significant celebrations in their home life. Flowers are delivered on Sundays following the 10am worship service. Lay Leaders: Nancy Bryan, Lynn Woodworth

 

Flower Guild


This is a wonderful way to learn to arrange flowers! Teams meet one Saturday morning a month to arrange flowers on the altar. After the 10am worship service, volunteers divide the flowers into vases to be delivered to people in the community. The Chapel Flower Guild meets on Mondays to arrange flowers for the Tuesday service and returns before the Thursday afternoon service to freshen the flowers. Hospitality Committee


This fun committee meets once every other month to be certain newcomers have been properly greeted. We plan the Bishop's dinner and the Newcomer's Socials. Greeters are assigned to each Sunday service to welcome visitors. Lay Leader: Donna Maddox 

 

Interfaith Hospitality Network


Four times a year, for a week at a time, Good Shepherd hosts homeless families in our church. Volunteers are needed to welcome, feed and help in many facets of this visitation week.

 

Lay Eucharistic Visitors


This group is charged with representing Good Shepherd by sharing the bread and wine from each Sunday Holy Eucharist with those in our community who are not able to attend services at the church. They meet one Monday every other month.

 

Lay Readers


Lay Readers (Lectors) are needed at both 8am and 10am Holy Eucharists to read the prescribed scripture and Prayers of the People. Lay Leaders: Terry Burbank (8am Service), Kay Cowan (10am Service)

 

Linen Guild


This group launders and cares for all fine linens used in the church and chapel. Teams of two are responsible for the linens one week per month. The duties may be done on one's own time. Lay Leader: Caroline Cavett

 

Office Receptionists


Be the first person people talk to when they call or visit Good Shepherd. These volunteers answer the phones and assist with other tasks in the church office for one morning or afternoon each (or every other) week. Lay Leader: Angie Murphy

 

Shepherd's Shuttle


Shepherd Shuttle drivers volunteer their time to help parishioners get to their destinations when driving is not an option. A one week notice is given to volunteers. Lay Leader: Snooks Holley

 

Ushers


Teams of ushers are needed at both Sunday services to hand out bulletins, take up the offering and help the congregation to Holy Communion. Each team of ushers serves 5-6 times each year. Lay Leader: Chris Crevasse

 

Vacation Bible School


When 100+ children come together to hear stories about God and God's people, to play games, to make crafts, and to raise their voices in songs of praise and joy, we need volunteers of all kinds - musicians, artists, teachers, actors. If you love a good time and you love children, there's a role for you in this heart-warming and faith-growing ministry.

 

Youth Program


The youth program needs and welcomes adult volunteers as group leaders, teachers of study units, chaperones for trips and events, goody bakers and much more.
